It is the mission of Every Voice Choirs to promote the musical and personal growth of youth by empowering them to discover and share their voices with confidence and pride. We seek to build on students' unique musical interests and experiences, creating ensembles that are shaped by their diverse members and in which every voice truly matters.
Every Voice Choirs is an Ensemble in Residence in the Program in Music and Music Education at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City. Rehearsals are led by the Music Director, Dr. Nicole Becker, and Voice Specialist Dr. Jeanne Goffi-Fynn, assisted by graduate students in Choral Pedagogy from Teachers College. The choruses rehearse at Teachers College (120th Street and Broadway) and perform concerts at TC and other New York City venues.
We offer two Core Choirs: Every Voice Kids (ages 7-10) and Every Voice Youth Choir (ages 10-14). There is no audition for the core choirs; everyone who makes a commitment to regular attendance and participation is welcome. For members of the core choirs seeking additional, rigorous choral training, we offer Every Voice Concert Choir-which made its Carnegie Hall debut in December 2014. Participation in the Concert Choir is based on a readiness assessment by the Music Director or the Voice Specialist in consultation with families. We also offer two workshops for additional focused and individualized training by our Voice Specialist: Audition Prep Workshop and Young Men's Vocal Workshop.
Every Voice Choirs is one of the only children's choirs in New York city that does not require a vocal audition to join. We believe that every voice can shine, and so everyone is invited to join our Core Choirs at Teachers College. We ask only for a firm commitment to participate in all rehearsals and performances.
Every Voice Choirs is dedicated to serving all young people who want to join us regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or financial status.
