The mission of Every Voice Choirs is to promote the musical and personal growth of youth by helping them discover their voices and share them with pride. We build on students' unique musical interests and experiences, creating ensembles shaped by their diverse members, in which every voice is welcome and every voice truly matters.
EVC has two Core Choirs, the Every Voice Kids Choir (ages 7-10) and the Every Voice Youth Choir (ages 11-16). There is no audition for these core choirs; everyone who makes a commitment to regular attendance and participation is welcome to join. Singers in the core choirs and workshops that seek additional, rigorous choral experience may audition for the Every Voice Concert Choir, our ensemble that performs in professional venues in collaboration with other choirs, orchestras, and artists. EVC's newest choir is VoiceAbility, for children ages 7-16 with special needs.
EVC's choirs sing music in diverse styles in a wide range of settings, with recent performances ranging from sporting events to two world premieres of works at Carnegie Hall. In our concerts, as in our rehearsals, we aspire to reflect and educate on themes of social justice.
Every Voice Kids
Thursdays 4:10-5:00 pm
In this ensemble for our younger singers ages 7-10, kids learn the foundations of healthy vocal technique as they sing a wide array of repertoire in diverse styles including folk, gospel, classical, popular, and world musics. Work on repertoire is interspersed with singing games that allow kids to explore their voices as both solo singers and members of a group
Every Voice Youth Choir
Thursdays 5:10-6:10 pm
In our ensemble for youth ages 11-16, students are trained in healthy vocal technique as they learn a diverse array of repertoire in multiples genres. Students are encouraged to become aware of the vocal and musical choices they make and to set goals for their vocal development.
Every Voice Concert Choir
Fridays 4:00-6:00 pm
The EVC Concert Choir is designed to meet the needs of our Core Choir members who are ready for more rigorous choral training and performance experience. The Concert Choir has performed at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium and Zankel Hall, Merkin Hall, and other New York City venues in collaboration with adult choirs including The Cecilia Chorus, Cantori New York, and the Teachers College Choir. By audition.
Saturdays 10-10:50 am / 11:10 am-12:00 pm
EVC VoiceAbility is designed for young singers, ages 7-16, who thrive in a supportive learning environment with a higher adult-student ratio than the other EVC ensembles have. Classes are structured to allow for children to explore their voices in an inclusive setting sensitive to their unique social, emotional, physical and/or intellectual development while building on their current strengths and abilities.
Vocal Technique Across Genres
Wednesdays 6:30-7:30 pm
Vocal Technique Across Genres is EVC's premier online class for young singers keen on developing their vocal technique in multiple styles of music, including classical, musical theater, and R&B/pop. This class is appropriate for students preparing auditions for specialized performing arts high schools, pre-college students considering pursuing vocal performance, and any performer interested in improving their vocal technique.
Saturdays 3:30-4:30 pm
Cornerstone Choir is an intergenerational choir based at Grant Cornerstone Community Center in Harlem and created by Every Voice Choirs. All children ages 7-17 in the community are invited to join with 1 or 2 of their trusted adults. (Adults may only join with a participating child.) We sing all kinds of music; singers choose the songs. Singers of all levels are welcome; you do not have to read music or have any singing experience. Just bring your spirit and your voice!
EVC Generations is an intergenerational choir made up of choir directors and voice teachers who, as graduate students in Music Education at Teachers College participated in Every Voice Choirs as interns, assistant directors, or directors - and their current students. Formed as EVC celebrates its tenth year in residence at TC, EVC Generations will make its debut at Carnegie Hall’s world-famous Stern Auditorium on December 11th, 2022, singing "Suscepit Israel" from J.S. Bach’s Magnificat in a concert presented by The Cecilia Chorus of New York with orchestra. The choir will be directed by EVC’s Artistic Director, Nicole Becker.
